Suspected Zanu PF activists have attacked a Citizens Coalition for Change lawmaker and several members of the party in Zimbabwe’s Insiza District.

In a tweet, CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, said, “We have received a report that Hon Jasmine Toffa & a group of CCC members have been attacked by suspected Zanu PF thugs in Insiza. Their vehicles have been badly damaged. We condemn this escalation in political violence.

“We’ve received a report that the thugs are pouring sand into the vehicle engines. They have stolen Hon Toffa’s handbag, personal belongings, money & fuel coupons. They’ve smashed windscreens. Hon Toffa & others are badly injured.”

Reports also indicate that some CCC councilors in Chitungwiza have been arrested.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they are investigating the political violence in Matobo.

Suspected Zanu PF supporters on Sunday attacked CCC lawmakers and several party members in Matobo’s Ward 2 ahead of the forthcoming council by-election. Some of them were badly injured.
