The High Court today granted bail to 14 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists, facing charges of inciting public violence, who have been in remand prison for more than 150 days.

At the same time, the trial of CCC lawmakers – Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole, who are facing similar charges, failed to kick off today after the two legislators applied for a postponement of the case as Sikhala wants to mount a fresh bail application based on changed circumstances.

In a tweet, CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, said, “Today, bail was granted for 14 members of the #Nyatsime17. Hon Godfrey Sithole was released last week. This means that two members remain outstanding, namely Hon @JobSikhala1 and & Felix Biri who was granted bail then re-arrested last week.”

Sikhala’s legal representative, Jeremiah Bamu, said the trial of the legislators is set for November 24.

Bamu said, “The reason why we asked for the postponement of the interview is that his attorneys were not given the relevant papers by the prosecutors and at the same time there was an issue of filing another bail application for the legislator.”

The bail application will be heard Friday.
