Zimbabwe’s opposition Citizens Coalition for Change led bhy Nelson Chamisa claims that two of its councilors have been arrested in Harare.

In a tweet, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said, “Cllr Lovemore Makuwerere has been arrested. He is detained at Machipisa Police Station. He is being charged with obstruction for assisting vendors who were being victimized at Machipisa Shops. Our lawyers are attending on him.

“Ward 27 CCC Councillor Herbert Gomba has been arrested by Southerton Police at a residents’ meeting where he was scheduled to unveil new community boreholes as well as hear the concerns and feed back of residents. Our lawyers have been despatched to attend to him.”

Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, was unavailable for comment as he was not responding to calls on his mobile phone.

In a related development, Mahere cried foul over the continued detention of Zengeza West lawmaker, Job Sikhala, who has been locked at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison for almost seven months.

In a tweet, she said, “@JobSikhala1 is a Zimbabwean political prisoner, lawyer & MP jailed without trial for 204 days for representing Moreblessing Ali who was murdered for her politics. Help us draw the world’s attention to his plight with a RETWEET. We demand his release!”

Sikhala, who has been denied bail several times, is facing charges of inciting violence following the killing of CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali, by suspected Zanu PF supporters sometime last year.

Her remains are at Chitungwiza General Hospital Mortuary.
