Fans of Zimbabwe soccer champions Highlanders Football Club were experiencing sticker shock over increased gate fees for the Africa Champions League qualifier against Al Aly of Egypt set for Sunday at Bulawayo's Barbourfields Stadium.
Highlanders announced fee increases to Z$5,000 in the general stands to Z$50,000 in VIP seating. Critics said the rise could deter fans already reeling financially from the impact of 1,600% inflation - but some fans said they would pay whatever it took to witness the match between Highlanders and one of Africa's best teams.
Reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe sought the view of Highlanders fan Themba Moyo of Bulawayo on the gate increases.
