Zimbabwe Warriors Coach Sunday Chidzambwa said Wednesday that he has named a team of locally based players for the 2009 edition of the Southern African Football Federation championship, which Zimbabwe is hosting next month.
Chidzambwa told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the tournament is not on the International Federation of Association Football calendar, which would have obliged foreign teams to release Warriors team members to participate.
The Cosafa tournament in Harare and Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city, will feature teams from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
Zimbabwe's Premier Soccer League said it will suspend matches starting next weekend to let the teams acclimatize and shape up for the regional tourney.
