Zimbabwe's select parliamentary committee in charge of constitutional revision on Monday resolved to reschedule for this coming weekend public outreach meetings in Harare and Chitungwiza canceled last week following disruption and violence allegedly caused by supporters of President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party, sources said.
Earlier, Parliamentary and Constitutional Affairs Minister Eric Matinenga told reporter Patience Rusere that a decision on when to reschedule abandoned meetings in Harare and Manicaland province would be taken this week.
Elsewhere, the Movement for Democratic Change formation of Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara said it would be premature to abandon the parliamentary committee as the hub of the constitutional revision process.
National Constitutional Assembly Chairman Lovemore Madhuku said last week that the parliamentary committee had failed and should be folded, giving way to a process in which civil society would take a leading role.
The NCA says it will campaign for a "No" vote in the referendum on the eventual constitutional draft.
Mutambara MDC National Secretary for Political Education Albert Masotsha Ndlovu told VOA reporter Brenda Moyo that the country will ultimately put in place what the NCA has termed a "people-driven" constitution.
