The ZAPU branch in the United Kingdom says preparations for the annual commemorations to honor the life of the late ZAPU leader Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo to be held at Bradford next month are at an advanced stage, with hundreds of people from all walks of life expected to attend.
A series of commemorations were held mostly in Bulawayo by the government, ZANU PF, and various civic organizations for the late ZAPU leader and vice-president, who died on July 1,1999.
In South Africa, civic group Matabeleland Entertainment News is expected to host a similar event this coming weekend at Hillbrow Theatre.
ZAPU secretary for information Thulani Nkala tells reporter Sithandekile Mhlanga his party responded to requests from Zimbabweans to hold the annual event.
Zimbabweans in the diaspora, including the USA, and South Africa, and mostly from the Matabeleland and Midlands regions, also hold annual events to honor the life of the late Ndebele king, Mzilikazi, as they try to keep track with events at home.
The cultural event is also held annually in Bulawayo.
