The government on Tuesday unveiled a 20 million dollar credit facility to support wheat farmers with inputs to allow them to increase production.
Agriculture Minister Joseph Made told reporters government was targeting an output of 75 thousand tonnes of wheat for this winter cropping season against last year’s output of 41 thousand tonnes as authorities move to ensure food security in the country.
Thomas Ciripasi has more details from Harare.
However, Gwanda North legislator Thandeko Zinti-Mnkandla tells reporter Sithandekile Mhlanga most people from dry regions such as Matabeleland and Masvingo do not benefit from winter wheat cropping as it is not sustainable in these regions.
