The Ministry of Labor on Monday ordered the Gwanda Municipality to come up with an effective plan to settle outstanding salaries for its workers who went on strike last week, after failing to reach an agreement with the workers in a meeting held in Gwanda.
The government last week ordered the workers to suspend the strike and produce a “Show Cause Order” on Monday explaining why they should continue with the industrial action.
In April this year, the workers engaged in a similar industrial action, which was halted after the municipality agreed to normalize pay dates by this month, a promise which the workers say has still not been fulfilled.
Sipho Ndlovu, Gwanda branch chairman of the Urban Council Union, said the workers will meet their employer again on Wednesday to resolve the issue as the workers are not satisfied with the debt-settling method proposed by the municipality.
