WASHINGTON DC —
MDC-T leader and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai Monday introduced Mavambo Khusile Dawn leader Simba Makoni as the party’s candidate for Makoni Central and urged his supporters to vote for him in the 31 July harmonized elections.
Addressing a rally in Vhengere Stadium in Rusape, Manicaland, Tsvangirai said his party will find another position for Patrick Sagandira, who had won the MDC T primaries to contest against Zanu PF in the parliamentary election.
The MDC-T leader teamed-up with the former the finance minister’s Mavambo Khusile Dawn party and Zanu Ndonga to form an election coalition seeking to topple President Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF from office, come July 31.
The so-called “Coalition for Change” would be fronted by Tsvangirai as presidential candidate. Makoni is traveling with Tsvangirai on his campaign trail, addressing supporters, urging them to vote the MDC founding president into office.
After the Rusape rally, the MDC leader addressed another party meeting in his backyard of Buhera West where Jason Mateu will battle it out with Senior Assistant Commissioner Oliver Mandipaka of Zanu PF and Moses Mutyasira of MDC formation of Industry Minister Welshman Ncube for the right to represent the area in parliament.
Tsvangirai spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka told VOA that the MDC-T leader will Tuesday address rallies at Kotwa in Mudzi, Mutoko and Murehwa Centres in Mashonaland East province.
