WASHINGTON DC —
MDC T spokesman Douglas Mwonzora says his party, which is in the midst of a spilt, is not surprised that former women’s assembly chairperson and Kuwadzana West member of assembly Lucia Matibenga attended a meeting convened at the weekend in Midlands South by the renewal team faction headed by former secretary general Tendai Biti.
Mwonzora said his group was already aware that Mrs. Matibenga was in the Biti faction of the MDC.
Mrs. Matibenga’s moves come at a time when some youth leaders in Manicaland province announced a few days ago that they have abandoned former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangiarai’s faction to join the renewal team.
Studio 7 failed to get a comment from Mrs. Matibenga as her mobile phone went unanswered.
But the renewal team spokesman Jacob Mafume said all MDC members, including Mrs. Matibenga, are free to attend their meetings.
