Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition says President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF party has revived terror groups it used in 2008 to intimidate political opponents, this time targeting the second all-stakeholders constitutional conference and the next general elections expected to be held next year.
The organization said some of the terror groups are Chipangano in Harare, Al-Shabab in Kwekwe, Jochomondo in Hurungwe, Top Six in Chinhoyi and Jambanja in Maramba-Pfungwe, Mashonaland region.
The report said members of the the terror groups, who usually dress in Zanu PF t-shirts, are moving around harassing local people.
Coordinator Nixon Nyikadzino of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition said the Chipangano group is spreading to other cities in the country with another one called Mandimbandimba springing up and causing havoc in Harare.
But Zanu PF’s Harare provincial youth chairman Jim Kunaka dismissed the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition’s findings.
Kunaka said the group is trying to tarnish his party’s image.
