The World Health Organization said 146 cases of cholera had been reported in Zimbabwe in recent weeks leading to five deaths, but the numbers were a far cry from the 18,000 cases and 877 deaths reported this time last year.
More than 4,200 people died in the cholera epidemic which raged in Zimbabwe from late 2008 to mid-2009 with reported cases totaling some 98,000.
WHO Country Representative Custodia Mandlhate said this year's low figures show measures taken since then to halt cholera are proving effective.
