Former lawmaker Fletcher Dulini Ncube, who was arrested and accused of murdering war veteran Cain Nkala in 2002, died Thursday afternoon at Bulawayo’s Mater Dei Hospital.
Spokesman Nhlanhla Dube of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formation led by Professor Welshman Ncube told Studio 7 that Dulini Ncube, who was acquitted of the murder charges together with MDC activists the late Remember Moyo, Sazini Mpofu, Army Zulu and Khethani Sibanda, was admitted to the hospital recently while he was in a serious condition.
Dube said mourners are gathered at the former PF Zapu cadre’s house in the city’s Hillside suburb.
At the time of his acquittal, Dulini Ncube said he had lost one eye after he was deprived of his vital medication for diabetes while he was in police custody. He also claimed that he was severely tortured by the police.
Dube said Zimbabwe has lost a dedicated freedom fighter. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the MDC Council of Elders.
