WASHINGTON —
A non-governmental organization is pushing for the transformation of Zimbabwe into a social democratic state as the country faces serious economic challenges.
Members of the Committee for the People’s Charter, launched by various civic groups in 2008, say it is possible to turn Zimbabwe into such a state, as long as citizens support this idea.
Spokesman Blessing Vava said his organization is currently conducting outreach programs to concientize Zimbabweans about advantages of being a social democratic state.
But political commentator Clement Moyo said these people are daydreaming.
Zanu PF spokesman Rugare Gumbo said it is possible to have social democracy in Zimbabwe though he is skeptical about the people pushing for this political dispensation.
