Zimbabwean soccer teams in the country's Division One have become embroiled in controversy over which teams will move up to the Premier Soccer League for the 2010 season, including High Court lawsuits and appeals.
The High Court issued a decision barring Southern Region teams Shabanie and the Zimbabwe Saints from playing a game on Sunday until it had responded to an appeal by Quelaton, another Division One team. But the teams ignored the court order and played Sunday, Shabanie defeating the Saints 3-1.
Sports commentator Michael Kariati told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the uproar reflects poor leadership by the Zimbabwe Football Association, which should ensure such turmoil does not recur.
