Some Zanu PF stalwarts are allegedly fighting over the control of the party ahead of the parliamentary by-elections in Harare and other regions.

The party’s national political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, has been accused by some Zanu PF activists of imposing Harare East candidate, Terrence Mukupe.

Another Zanu PF candidate, Mavis Gumbo, was ditched at the last minute by the ruling party after President Robert Mugabe allegedly intervened.

Apart from that, statements made by Information Minister Jonathan Moyo recently that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not President Robert Mugabe’s heir apparent, have sent tongues wagging in the party with some war veterans upping their chorus in calling for his ouster.

They claim that he is working with foreign governments in trying to topple the president. Kasukuwere says these allegations are being made by hopeless drunkards.

For perspective, reporter Tatenda Gumbo reached Africa Confidential Magazine editor, Patrick Smith, who said this is the unfinished business in the ruling party which split wide open ahead of its elective congress last year.
