World Cup Soccer Fans Pleased as Zimbabwe Power Cuts Ease in Harare


But a source in Bulawayo said Zimbabwe's second-largest city was without power much of Friday, frustrating soccer-lovers

Some Zimbabwean soccer fans say the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority has been managing power cuts well during the current World Cup of soccer in Zimbabwe, allowing many in Harare to enjoy games.

But a Bulawayo source said Zimbabwe's second-largest city was without power much of Friday.

Soccer fan Tsitsi Kadzange told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that power cuts have become less frequent in Harare's Zimre Park so she has been able to watch the Cup with few interruptions.

In World Cup action Friday, Serbia upset Germany 1-0 win in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, after a German player received a red card early in the match. The United States staged a late rally to draw with Slovenia, 2-2.
