Washington - President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the ruling Zanu PF’s recent victory in five of the six council by-elections is an indication that the former liberation movement will win the local government, parliamentary and presidential election in 2023.

Addressing his party’s Politiburo meeting in Harare today, Mnangagwa also commended the formation of various organizations that are spearheading economic development inconjuction with the party and government.
Mnangagwa was confident that his party will beat the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change and others in the forthcoming harmonized elections.

“This month I had the privilege to attend rallies in Chiredzi North which had the highest election victory margins countrywide during the 2018 harmonized general elections as well as in Mutasa South where the party reclaimed the constituency during the by-elections held this year. The results of the by-elections held over the weekend are a clear demonstration that Zanu PF is unstoppable and Zanu PF victory is certain in the 2023 harmonized general elections.”
He commended some teachers for forming Teachers for Economic Development (Teachers for ED) and similar entities for what he said is a great move in transforming the Zimbabwe economy.

The ruling party is holding an elective congress in Harare where Mnangagwa is expected to become the Zanu PF first secretary.
According to the party’s secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu, all Zanu PF provinces have endorsed Mnangagwa as the sole candidate for the top post.
