The interim spokesperson of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Fadzayi Mahere, is facing a 20-year jail term after a Harare magistrate found her guilty of publishing falsehoods prejudicial to the state.

Taurai Manwere ruled that Mahere undermined the authority of the police when she tweeted that a policeman beat to death a baby that was strapped on its mother’s back.

Manwere said its untrue that a policeman wielding a baton stick struck and killed a child.

He said the tweet eroded the public’s confidence in the law enforcement agents.

Mahere is awaiting sentence.
