Zimbabwe Cricket Makes Strides Towards Regaining Test Status

Zimbabwe's select cricket team improved its performance Wednesday in the second day of a four-day unlimited-overs match against India’s ‘A’ team.

From Zimbabwe Cricket’s standpoint the match at the Harare Sports Club was a step towards regaining test status in November despite calls by some in the International Cricket Council for the country to rebuild before trying to re-enter global play.

Zimbabwe was left out of the latest ICC test championship rankings because it took part in just eight test matches over the past three years.

Zimbabwe Cricket spokesman Blessing Maulgue told Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that despite chasing India's 489 runs, the local favorites did not seem outclassed and had scored 129 for four by the end of play.

The match resumes on Thursday with Zimbabwe continuing to bat.
