The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions said Friday that it will support “labor friendly” candidates in the parliamentary and senate elections which the government of President Robert Mugabe has said will be held in March.
The ZCTU, Zimbabwe's largest trade union confederation, said it will back candidates regardless of political affiliation if they promise to advance laws beneficial to workers.
ZCTU Secretary General Wellington Chibebe told reporter Jonga Kandemiiri of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the union is following the example of labor organizations in other countries in backing candidates attentive to the interests of workers.
