WASHINGTON —
Police in Bulawayo on Monday arrested 21 people including elderly women who were marching in the city to present a petition to the state-owned Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority accused of hiring people from other regions, such as Mashonaland, at the expense of locals.
Among the arrested were members of pressure group, Mthwakazi Youth Joint Resolution, that had organized the March.
Lawyer Dumisani Dube said his clients, who are detained at the Bulawayo Police Central Police Station, are charged with contravening the Public Order and Security Act.

They are expected to appear in court Tuesday.
Thandolwenkosi Dube, secretary-general of the Mthwakazi Youth Joint Resolution, told VOA that unemployed residents from Bulawayo’s Nketa and Mganwini surbubs, which are located near the Insukamini ZESA plant in the city, approached his group for assistance.
