More than 250 company executives, business representatives and consumer groups are set to attend a two-day business conference in Harare hosted by the Buy Zimbabwe initiative, seeking to promote the production and consumption of local goods.

Buy Zimbabwe’s communications manager Robert Muganda told VOA Studio 7 Monday that the conference, which starts Wednesday, will focus on boosting capacity utilization in industries, liquidity challenges, record unemployment and the promotion of various local goods for regional markets.

Muganda said expectations are high that the conference would help revamp Zimbabwe’s economy.

“We have no doubt that a lot will come out of the conference as we will also be hosting an experiential expo where companies will display their goods and services,” said Muganda.

Capacity utilization in most industries in the country is pegged below 60 percent while the country has one of the highest rates of unemployment, believed to be almost 90 percent.
