Zanu PF says scores of supporters of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formation of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai in Makokoba constituency in Bulawayo have crossed the floor to join the party.

The party's parliamentary candidate for the area, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, told VOA his party has received more than 200 defectors, who have surrendered their MDC-T regalia and membership cards.

Dube claimed that his party is still receiving more people, adding they are attracted by projects he has initiated for developing the city’s oldest township.

MDC-T Bulawayo organising secretary, Albert Mhlanga, denied allegations that members of his party in Makokoba have joined Zanu PF.

He said he checked with all party structures in his province and there are no indications of any defections.

The Bulawayo provincial chairman of the party, Gorden Moyo, was also recently fingered by the state media as intending to join Zanu PF after appearing on television with his rival for Makokoba constituency, Retired Colonel Dube.

Moyo said these allegations are misplaced.
