Former Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu has finally broken his silence over his termination, declaring he remains a loyal supporter of the Bulawayo team and wishing them well.
Mafu was fired last week following a string of poor results, and replaced by Amin Soma Phiri who lost his first assignment to Harare City last weekend.
For now Mafu is investing his time in reading and gardening while he waits for the next coaching opportunity.
“I’ve not been approached by anyone yet but I believe that I have been in a very big brand and that’s a platform that should open other avenues for me,” Mafu told Studio 7.
After his unceremonious departure, one would naturally expect bad blood from Mafu towards the team.
Still, he says he has nothing but unconditional love for the waning Bulawayo giants. “I support Highlanders, I love Highlanders and I will always support Highlanders,” he said.
“I can be removed from coaching Highlanders but I cannot be removed from being a Highlanders person... If we are all to support Highlanders, let us do so positively.”
