Investigations into allegations of match fixing in Asia have taken another twist after renowned Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa has been linked to the scandal which has drawn world attention.
Correspondent Michael Kariati reports that Zimbabwe has delayed taking action against players who have confessed to receiving money to lose games on Asian trips.
Now former coaches like Chidzambwa have been implicated in the saga.
A ZIFA inquiry has found several players and officials guilty of fixing games. In one trip Zimbabwe lost 3-0 to Thailand and 6-0 to Syria.
Tour captain, on the tour, said players were paid for losing “correctly” to Syria after failing to lose by the instructed 1-0 scoreline to host Thailand.
Commenting on the inquiry’s report last month, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke said “if someone has confessed then this person should not be playing anymore.”
Vice president Ndumiso Gumede of ZIFA, led the inquiry. He promised action would be taken but nothing of that sort has happened to date.
Meanwhile Zimbabwe’s junior tennis team is in Botswana for the Africa junior championships set to begin next week in Gaborone.
Twelve boys and girls are representing the country. They started their warm-up matches Tuesday ahead of the tournament.
Tennis coach Richmore Murape tells VOA Studio Seven reporter Marvellous Mhlanga Nyahuye he is confident his team will perform well despite the competition posed by the other 19 countries in the tournament.
