Zimbabwean police on Tuesday detained the head of the youth assembly of the Movement for Democratic Change formation led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

MDC sources said Solomon Madzore was picked up at his home in Waterfalls by Law and Order detectives. They said he was being held at Harare Central police station though no charges had been brought against him. The sources added that only one family member and his lawyer were allowed to see him, though he was provided with food.

Another MDC youth wing officer, Costa Machingauta, was arrested last week.

Youth Assembly Secretary General Promise Mkwananzi said the group condemned what it called “unwarranted harassment and intimidation” of its leaders and members.
