Zimbabwe National AIDS Council Donates $1 Million to BEAM

WASHINGTON DC —
The National Aids Council on Wednesday donated $1 million to the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) programme.
The donation was received in Harare by officials from the ministries of Health and Labour, who stood in for David Parirenyatwa and Nicholas Goche respectively.
The money will be used for assisting the more than one million orphaned and disadvantaged school children.
The government needs $73 million but only $15 million was budgeted for BEAM this fiscal year.
The British government through its Department for International Development (DFID) also recently donated $10 million towards the education programme.
National AIDS Council director of information Madeline Dube said as an organization they feel that they have a mandate to help the less privileged especially those affected by the HIV/Aids scourge.
She said they expect the money to assist more than 12,000 children in the process.
