Youth Group Alleges Zanu PF Intimidation in Midlands North

WASHINGTON DC —  The Zimbabwe Organisation for Youths in Politics says it is concerned with what it alleges is the intimidation of MDC-T supporters by known Zanu PF activists in Gokwe, Midlands province.

The youth organisation, which is based in Kwekwe in the Midlands province, said in a statement that Zanu PF supporters were going door-to-door threatening MDC-T supporters, asking villagers to surrender party regalia or face unspecified action.

ZOYP executive director Nkosilathi Moyo told VOA the Zanu PF supporters were also defacing MDC-T campaign posters advertising a rally that is expected to be addressed Wednesday by party president Morgan Tsvangirai in the area.

Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairman Jason Machaya denied the youth group’s allegations saying peace was prevailing in the province.

Zimbabwe Christian Alliance chairperson Ray Motsi said voters should be wary of politicians who want to use them during election time to gain votes in return for money or alcohol.

He sys his organisation is working with political parties to avoid a repeat of the 2008 election violence.
