At least 19 people were injured and more than 100 homesteads destroyed early Sunday morning when a severe thunderstorm ravaged Mukumbura District in Mount Darwin North, Mashonaland Central Province.
Villagers told VOA Studio 7 that the storm lasted between 15 to 20 minutes but the destruction was just too big for them to fathom.
The injured were rushed to Mount Darwin Hospital in an ambulance and a vehicle belonging to local Member of Parliament Dickson Mafios.
Mafios confirmed that many homes and schools like Zambara Primary were destroyed, leaving students and villagers stranded.
The Meteorological Services Department and Civil Protection Unit are reported to have sent teams to area to assess the situation.
One of the affected villagers, Hamaruoko Chatyoka of Zambara Village in Ward 34, said most villagers lost their food stocks and belongings.
