The Morgan Tsvangirai led Movement for Democratic Change's losing parliamentary election candidate for Uzumba, Mashonaland East province, Peckson Kazingizi, is accusing village heads and Zanu PF militia of forcing his supporters to surrender their party regalia and membership cards or face unspecified action.

Kazingizi said village heads were also using this tactic to entice the MDC-T supporters to ditch their party in exchange for food assistance as they will be removed from so-called “Zanu PF sanctions lists”.

Kazingizi, who lost heavily to Zanu PF’s Simbaneuta Mudarikwa, said the most affected areas were Mashambanhaka catchment - Chipfunde, Chidodo and Manyika.

He also said some members’ homes in Maramba-Pfungwe were also destroyed for allegedly voting for MDC-T.

He added that those who refused to be assisted while casting their ballots on voting day were also being targeted.

But winning candidate Mudarikwa refuted the accusations, saying Kazingizi’s allegations were unfounded and coming from a bitter man.

Mudarikwa said there was peace in Uzumba as people from all the political parties were co-existing despite their political differences.
