WASHINGTON DC —
Students at the University of Zimbabwe’s medical school have gone on strike expressing dismay over college fee increases.
Reports say some of the students and political activists have been locked up for taking part in the protest.
The university increased the medical students' tuition from $700 to between $900 and $1,500 starting in the next semester.
University students have to fork out large sums of money to obtain tertiary education in Zimbabwe.
Protests at the UZ and other institutions of higher learning have over the years gripped several tertiary institutions.
