The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) says 2016 has started off on a good note with the country's national soccer squad, the Warriors, with no financial complaints so far and looking set to perform in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament in Rwanda next week.
ZIFA spokesperson Xolani Gwesela told VOA Studio 7 there is a positive outlook in ZIFA and hopes that fans will be able to start believing in the team once again.
ZIFA has in the past faced huge financial challenges and has been accused of maladministration by fans, which led in most circumstances to the national team failing to adequately prepare for international tournaments.
The association's failure to settle a debt owed to former coach, Belgian Tom Sainfiet, forced FIFA to bar the national team from participating in the forthcoming World Cup.
ZIFA fired its president and appointed businessman Phillip Chiyangwa as its new head in December. Chiyangwa has promised to eradicate the organisation's debt and secure sponsorship to assist in the smooth running of the association.
"We are very happy about the way things are going in the association, the Warriors are training without any complaints, their bonuses were paid and the president visited them to boost their moral, we are hopeful we will do well at CHAN," said Gwesela.
Chiyangwa announced recently that he had secured a million dollar sponsorship to help pay off some the Association's debts and to date the first payment went to former Belgian coach Santifiet.
"We are very excited about the changes at ZIFA and the new president and his executive have been doing a great job to assist in the smooth running of the association," said Gwesela
