Attorney General Johannes Tomana has denied news reports quoting him as saying that politicians implicated in Wikileaks disclosures committed no crime.

Tomana said the committee he set up to look into disclosures of contacts between US diplomats and Zimbabwean officials of President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change is still at work.

Tomana told VOA reporter Jonga Kandemiiri that no report has been issued and the panel has reached no determination as to whether prosecution may be called for.

The Wikileaks disclosures of conversations between US envoys and senior officials on the co-governing parties were embarrassing for ZANU-PF given its strident anti-US rhetoric of the past decade, and for the MDC, some of whose officials criticized Tsvangirai.

Political analyst Charles Mutasa said Tomana may yet be obliged to change his mind as the now-receding Wikileaks scandal caused serious tensions within ZANU-PF.
