ZBC Pays Distraught Workers $100 Each

Deputy Information Minister Supa Mandiwanzira has reiterated assertions that the finance ministry will loan the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) money to pay employees salaries that have been outstanding for seven months.

ZBC workers told Studio 7 on condition of anonymity that they were paid only $100 this month contrary to earlier assurances by Mandiwanzira that they will be paid their outstanding salaries in full plus bonuses before Christmas.

Workers are bitter that suspended ZBC boss, Happison Muchechetere, was racking in more than $40,000 a month, including allowances when they were wallowing in poverty.

Mandiwanzira said negotiations with Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa have reached an advanced stage and workers will be paid in a couple of days.

Economist Prosper Chitambara said government must not continue to baby-sit ZBC.
