Mayor Urges Vendors to Maintain Order in Bulawayo

Bulawayo vendors and some civic organisations Tuesday met with the mayor councillor Martin Moyo and discussed various issues affecting informal traders.

The all-stakeholders’ consultative meeting focused on vending licenses, vending bays, proposed new laws, confiscation of goods by municipal police and the crafting of an informal sector policy.

Some of the people who attended the meeting complained to the mayor that the city fathers worry about the dirt in the city at the expense of people’s livelihood.

But mayor Moyo says his council is ready to work with vendors as long as there is some kind of order in the city.

“I have no quarrel with that. We would like to allow the vendors to eke a living, but it is also in their interest that where they work from the surroundings are clean,” said the mayor.

Moyo said at the moment there are no vendors in the city's central business district.
