Zimbabwean singers, comedians and performing artists have joined hands for a benefit concert set for Tuesday at the Book café in Harare for their colleague, Pretty Xaba, suffering from cancer.
Doctors recommended that actress Xaba should seek cancer treatment outside the country.
Concert promoter, Tawonga Mafundikwa, told VOA Studio 7 that some of the country’s most popular musicians, who include Jah Prayzah and Sulumani Chimbetu, the Charambas and other musicians will be performing at the concert in an effort to raise $10,000 needed for an operation in India.
"We are happy with the response we are receiving from our local artists who have given up their time to help raise funds for one of our colleagues. We hope to get a similar response from some of the corporate clients she worked with before her illness," said Mafundikwa.
Other non-profit organisations, including the internet-based women's group Dandaro Remadzimai of which Xaba is a member, are also raising funds to help in her treatment.
Dandaro Remadzimai founder, Jenny Msonza, who also runs the Jenny Msonza Foundation, is working alongside other friends of Xaba to help reach the target to send her for treatment.
"The concert will be running under the theme 'Let's help Pretty Campaign'. It is expected to have a sell out crowd," said Mafundikwa.
He added that many other events will be held after this one until the target amount needed for Xaba's treatment is reached.
