The United States Embassy in Zimbabwe has urged local people to watch out for scam emails as they participate in this year’s Diversity VISA Lottery Program.

Acting U.S Embassy Public Affairs Officer, Nicole Fox, says applicants should only visit the U.S State Department’s website when making the applications.

The program awards up to 55,000 visas annually to people from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States, including Zimbabwe.

The application entry forms will only be available for submission between Octobet 1st and November 3rd. Entries will not be accepted through the U.S Postal Service.

Meanwhile, Ngqabutho Mabhena of the Zimbabwe Community in South Africa says internet cafes have hiked charges and some organizations are asking applicants to pay huge sums of money for processing work, business and student permits under the current Zimbabwe Special Permits program.

At least 245,000 Zimbabweans who benefited from the 2009 permits program are expected to regularize their status in South Africa under the scheme, which ends December 31st.
