Family reunions and spiritual rejuvenation marked Good Friday as Zimbabweans celebrated the start of the Easter holiday.
Christians celebrate the day in commemoration of Jesus Christ’s death and then mark His resurrection on Sunday.
Some of the Zimbabweans, who spoke to Studio 7, said they are struggling to buy foodstuffs associated with Easter due to the current drought gripping the nation.
Thandeko Zinti Mnkandla, who is a minister of religion, said there are few family feasts this Easter holiday.
“In terms of society it’s difficult….the majority of people are surviving in abject poverty and the goat that you have cannot be slaughtered whenever you have to save it for difficult times ahead. People cannot slaughter a goat like we used to, these are difficult times … times are really hard.”
He said, “When I get time, I will go home to see my mum and friends.”Another Zimbabwean, who only identified himself as Bhekisipo and is based in South Africa, said he spent the whole day welding since it was a busy time for him.

Pastor Emma of the Women of the Word Ministries in Harare thanked God for the Easter holiday.
“It is a special day for us Christians, we must pray for safety (on the roads) throughout this holiday”.
Fifteen year-old Tatendeka Thelma Solani joined other people in celebrating Easter in Mt. Darwin.
“On youth, I want to encourage my generation, to stay cool, and enjoy their youth in celebrating the death of our Lord Jesus who died for us, sanctified us with our sins, stay cool, love you all.”
