The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) is condemning the arrest and detention in Harare on Wednesday of Natasha Dowell, a volunteer coordinator for the Gays and Lesbian of Zimbabwe (GALZ) and one Tawanda Maguze.
The two were arrested at a GALZ workshop on social media use at the Bronte Hotel. The lawyers say the police disrupted the workshop alleging organizers had not sought police clearance as required under the Public Order and Security Act (POSA).
The two were detained at Harare Central Police Station. Dowell was charged with contravening Section 25 of POSA and released while Maguze was released without charge with the police saying they will proceed by way of summons.
The three-day meeting was in its second day before the morning arrests.
ZLHR spokesman Kumbirai Mafunda condemned the arrests.
