Winter brings with it a lot of respiratory ailments such as the common cold and flu that leaves many bed-ridden and sickly.
Doctors are urging Zimbabweans to take precautionary measures against such ailments by staying warm and also avoiding exposure by being around other sick people.
The chairperson of the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights, Dr. Rutendo Bonde, told VOA Studio 7 people should avoid having traditional heaters in their home overnight, as the smoke from gadgets using coal can be poisonous and dangerous, sometimes leading to death.
She also stressed extreme hygiene to avoid infecting others. "It is very important for people to open their windows even during the cold spell currently being experienced in the country to ensure that there is adequate airflow which is needed to stop the re-infecting others with ailments like common colds," said Dr. Bonde.
She added that exercising and taking essential vitamins like vitamin C and eating fruits during the winter will help prevent the public from catching common ailments like colds.
