Ousted war veterans leader, Jabulani Sibanda, appeared in court in Harare on Monday charged with undermining the authority of the president.
Sibanda, who was arrested Friday afternoon by detectives from Harare who picked him up at his Nyamandlovu farm, Matabelaland North province, was remanded in custody to Wednesday.
Studio 7 failed to reach his lawyer Sobuza Gula Ndebele, who’ is the country’s former Attorney General.
Meanwhile, Job Sikhala, a member of the Movement for Democratic Change formation of Morgan Tsvangirai, who alleges he was tortured by detectives on Saturday, says he is taking the police to court Tuesday.
Sikhala handed himself over to the police's Law and Order Section in Harare on Saturday in the company of his lawyer, Alec Muchadehama.
Sikhala says he was tortured as the police tried to force him to confess to plotting to topple the government with the assistance of a German national he allegedly met in Swaziland.
Sikhala says no charges have been preferred against him yet.
At the same time, MDC-T secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora, was also arrested Saturday on allegations of misappropriating trust funds.
Mwonzora, who is on a $500 bail, is accused of allegedly abusing $15,000 in trust funds. He surrendered his passport at the court.
But Zanu PF Central Committee member, Joseph Tshuma, says the arrests have nothing to do with political harassment of the opposition members.
He adds that to show that Zanu PF is a party that follows the rule of the law, those that have been arrested will be tried accordingly without any political influence.
