Zimbabwean workers say their future looks bleak saying the government appears clueless on job creation.
In speeches to mark Labor Day, which is commemorated on the first day of May worldwide, some workers’ groups in Zimbabwe said they are suffering due to the harsh economic environment in the country.
One of this year’s event held Monday at Rufaro Stadium and boycotted by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), was convened by government and some labour organizations.
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa told the crowd that government is trying all it can to improve the lives of workers.
“Since the period in 1980 government has been concerned about the plight of the worker and has cumulatively and gradually introduced landmark pieces of legislation for their welfare."

But George Nkiwane, president of the ZCTU, said President Mugabe’s government has no clue on how to create jobs in the country.

“The government has failed. We are where we are because of their policies. We are where we are because they have failed. It’s a government that does not care about its citizens,” said Nkiwane.
