MUTARE —
Suspended Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial chairperson, Mike Madiro, and the party’s provincial Women’s League chairperson, Dorothy Mabika, on Monday appeared before provincial magistrate facing charges of stock theft involving 10 herd of cattle meant for President Robert Mugabe’s 21st February Movement last year.
Madiro and Mabika were remanded by Lucy Anne Mungwari to 22 April for trial after paying $150 bail each.
Mabika, who is facing two separate charges of stock theft involving six herd of cattle meant for the Zanu-PF inter-district celebrations and of allegedly obstructing the course of justice, was remanded again to early May for trial and ordered to pay another $150 bail.
Both Madiro and Mabika were not asked to plead when they appeared before Mungwari.
The state led by Jane Rose Matsikidze told the court that Madiro, 49, and Mabika aged 47 received 10 herd of cattle from party member, John Chirimambowa, as a donation to President Mugabe’s birthday last year.
The state alleges that the two allegedly converted the beasts to their own use.
The state informed the court that it intends to call at least eight witnesses including Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa, the party's national youth league chief Absalom Sikhosana, ZI-FM boss and parliamentary aspirant Supa Mandiwanzira and one David Muzama.
Tinofara Hove of TK Hove and associates represented the two.
On separate charges, Mabika is alleged to have received at her farm six dairy calf bulls in September 2011 from farmer Dawid Hercules Jourbert which had been donated to the Zanu-PF inter-district programmes.
The state alleges that Mabika converted them to her own use.
