Zimbabwe Parliament Searches for Commissioners

Zimbabwe's Parliament on Monday started interviewing candidates to fill vacancies for the Human Rights Commission and the Electoral Commission, as well as pick maiden commissioners for the Gender Commission and the Peace Commission.

Six candidates were interviewed for the one Human Rights Commission vacancy while 12 were vying for the only two available Electoral Commission posts.

Interviews for the Gender Commission will be conducted Tuesday with 30 candidates against seven vacancies.

The Peace Commission, which requires eight commissioners, has 33 candidates, and interviews will be done Wednesday.

Both the Gender Commission and the Peace are new and will be getting their founding commissioners after these interviews.

Lawmaker Nelson Chamisa, chairperson of Legal and Procedural Affairs sub-committee of the Standing Rules and Orders Committee said they were impressed with the caliber of the interviewees.
