Unknown men suspected to be members of the notorious Zanu PF Chipangano outfit Tuesday abducted journalist-cum-activist Itai Dzamara and his colleagues, who are part of what they term Occupy Africa Unity Square, which is calling for the immediate resignation of President Robert Mugabe they accuse of ruining the country.
Dzamara and his colleagues were abducted by the assailants while marching along Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in Harare.
The five protestors, including Tafadzwa Charumbira, Jerry Mugweni and others only named as Allan and Bothwell, were severely assaulted and later dumped at the Harare Central Police Station after hours of being reported missing.
Eyewitness and Occupy Africa Unity Square group secretary-general, Charles Nyoni, who said he managed to identify one of the abductors as a member of the Mbare-based terror group, told VOA Studio 7 Dzamara and his colleagues were pushed into three speeding vehicles that included a white Toyota Corolla.
Nyoni said the activists were taken to a Zanu-PF office along 4th Street where they were thoroughly beaten up with various objects including an iron bar.
He said the five have now been admitted at the Avenues Clinic where they are being checked by doctors.
Last month Dzamara and his lawyer, Kennedy Masiyiwa, were brutalized by the riot police who descended on them at Africa Unity Square.
In October, a group of Zanu-PF youths also attacked Dzamara and his colleagues.
