Abducted political activist Itai Dzamara

The convener of the Itai Dzamara peace prayer meetings says they are now planning to approach top government officials over missing activist Itai Dzamara who was abducted from his Glen View suburb on March 9 this year.

Bishop Ancelimo Magaya says they have decided to take this route after noticing that the police were not periodically updating the nation on their efforts to locate Dzamara, as per a High Court order that compelled them to produce bi-weekly updates on the activist.

“This is the time to directly confront the leadership of this nation, especially the vice president who is also the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Mr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa," said Bishop Magaya.

"We want in due course, aah, actually quite soon, to knock on his offices to actually tell him our mind that we are very confident that if the police would be allowed to do their work they should be able to find Itai or to account for him.”

Dzamara, who was leading a “Mugabe must go” campaign under his Occupy Africa Unity Sqaure group was abducted by suspected state agents on his way to a barber shop and has never been seen again.

Bishop Magaya said they are postponing a scheduled peace prayer meeting meant for Mutare on Saturday as they are still trying to source some funds.
