The Heal Zimbabwe Trust says its members drawn from the country’s two main political parties, Zanu PF and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) are working together through its peace-building and poverty eradication program called the Garden of Peace.
Heal Zimbabwe Trust monitoring and evaluation officer, Laura Gutura, said they have managed to set up gardens of peace in Muzarabani and Chiweshe in Mashonaland Central province, Gokwe in Midlands province and Gutu in Masvingo province, where women from the two main political parties are working together in an effort to heal wounds of violence.
Last week about 20 women in Muzarabani met at Kutsungirira, one of the four projects.
The women meet twice a week to work in the projects and also discuss issues affecting them.
Gutura said since the pilot project is a success, their next focus is incorporating the youths, who together with men, were accused of being the major perpetrators of the 2008 violence which left hundreds of people dead and other maimed.
