Suspended Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyi said he still thinks that Local Government Minister Savior Kasukuwere erred in suspending him because he did nothing wrong in the execution of his duties as the council leader.
Speaking for the first time after the High Court last week dismissed his urgent application challenging his suspension, Manyenyeni said he does not regret his action as he was guided by the constitution and Urban Councils Act.
“I am at peace with my suspension, but I know that many people out there are more angry than I am."
He said his suspension and that of Town Clerk, James Mushore, has created a lot of uncertainty.
“Some areas, some issues that need attention are long standing, they have been with us for a long time, like salary arrears, service delivery issues, those issues require conctrete solid leadership on both arms of council, the policy-maker level and the executive level,” Manyenyeni said.
He added that the current impasse was most unhealthy and was poorly timed.
Manyenyeni was suspended three weeks ago on allegations of insubordination and disobeying the minister after his council employed Mushore as the city’s town clerk.
